Artist’s Statement:
This piece was created as a tribute to Dr. Patrick Frank Williams, a skilled anatomist and former Assistant Professor at UTMC. During my undergraduate years, I reached out to him in hopes of getting involved in research, and he generously allowed me to enroll in his research elective. Through this experience, I was given the rare opportunity to explore the anatomy of my choosing, and as an artist, I felt it was only natural to study the brachial plexus.
It was in this lab that I first watched Dr. Frank teach medical students, quietly hoping that I would one day stand among them. In what could have been an intimidating environment, he met myself and others with kindness, guidance, and warmth. He taught me not only how to study anatomy, but how to appreciate it, to approach the human body with respect, curiosity, and awe.
This piece captures those moments, scenes etched into my memory that reflect the precision, skill, and quiet artistry of his teaching.
Lila Mahmoud is a second-year medical student at UTCOMLS.
