Shocked is not it.
A massive ripping away
and we
pretend
to be appalled by the infected tissue
and atrophied muscle mass.
Yellow pus has always been seeping out
staining white medical gauze
a gross disparity laid clear
in two lines
halves halve nots
My body lays with the poor and undocumented.
My hands cover the diseased and untested.
My eyes watch as the underserved get passed
over and strewn out like pieces of toast
on Central Park ground.
